Farewell 2016

2016 – it seems like the world is just ready to close the chapter and move on.  I’ll admit, it has been a weird year of confusing politics, loss of several beloved celebrities, and a general “world on fire” attitude.  The world of politics has hit reset – it remains to be seen how good and/or bad this reset may actually turn out.  We are perhaps simultaneously facing the greatest challenges of the previous three generations: race relations, cold war and global terrorism.  However, in the midst of all the doom and gloom and the challenges before us, 2016 was one of the greatest years of my life.

As a parent, our greatest joys tend to come when our children are experiencing their greatest joy – this sums up 2016 for my family.  We welcomed the birth of our first grandchild, Olivia Grace (and the first girl born into our family in quite some time).  Our older son and daughter-in-law are terrific parents.  Olivia is such a happy baby and I’m convinced that it’s because she is so well-loved.  She is absolutely adorable and to quote my mother, “just because I’m biased, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t true”.

Also this year, our younger son and his fiancée graduated from college and were married back in October.  We’ve been blessed that both our sons have married amazing, Godly young ladies.  Seeing the joy of our two sons, the young men they have become, and the incredible futures in front of them has made 2016 a fantastic year for our family and we are looking forward to 2017!
